My Erasmus+ Experience in Ikast, Denmark

Through the Erasmus+ program, I had the valuable opportunity to spend six weeks in Ikast, Denmark. During this time, I lived at Sportstar College, a boarding school with a focus on sports and international exchange, while attending classes at Ikast Brande Gymnasium. This unique combination allowed me to experience both the local school system and the everyday life of international students.

From the very beginning, my stay in Denmark was filled with exciting, enriching and often entertaining experiences. It was my first time living abroad completely on my own, without the familiar support of friends or family. Although this brought challenges, it also helped me grow in many ways. I became more confident, independent and open to new perspectives, and I gained a much deeper appreciation for different cultures and ways of life.

Throughout my time abroad, I remained in close contact with my teachers and classmates at home, as well as with my Erasmus+ coordinator, Professor Natter. With their support, I was able to follow the same curriculum as my class and keep up with all schoolwork. This allowed me to continue learning effectively while still enjoying the full benefits of the exchange experience.

A special highlight of my time in Denmark was visiting two of the country’s most vibrant cities: Copenhagen and Aarhus. I spent a weekend exploring Copenhagen, the capital, and was impressed by its unique mix of modern design, historical landmarks and lively atmosphere. Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city, was equally beautiful with its creative spirit, friendly people and stunning coastal views. Both cities left a lasting impression on me and are destinations I would highly recommend.

Looking back, I am extremely grateful to have had the chance to take part in this Erasmus+ journey. It was not only an academic exchange, but also a personal one that helped me grow in confidence and broaden my view of the world. I would strongly encourage anyone to take advantage of such an opportunity. A cultural and language exchange is an experience that stays with you for life, and I feel very fortunate to have been part of it.
