"Childhood Dreams and Teenage Tears"

by Marlene Spreitzhofer, 3C

The following poem tells the story of girls growing up, from happy kindergarten days to tough high school times. It shows how they change in how they see themselves and how others treat them. Even when things get hard, the poem shows how strong and determined they are to keep going.

In kindergarten's cheerful light,
They danced with princes, full of delight.
Their dads, like kings, their love did show,

Their moms dressed them, princesses in a row.
With hearts so light, they played and dreamed,
Their world so big, yet all redeemed.
But things changed, shadows came to play,
As boys turned mean, in a hurtful way.
In grade school, they learned and grew,
But boys' teasing made them blue.
Once friends, now foes, it seemed unfair,
They teased and taunted, without care.
In middle school, things shifted again,
Their world grew bigger, but so did pain.
Friends betrayed them, secrets spilled,
Leaving them hurt, and feeling chilled.
Their parents scolded, feeling stressed,
For growing up, they felt distressed.
While boys' cruel words, they hit them hard,
Their confidence shaken, their self-esteem scarred.
High school came, a different scene,
Where girls felt pressured, to be seen.
Their grades slipped, their dreams did fade,
Their worth ignored, in beauty's shade.
Parents held tight, on to times gone by,
While girls cried softly, wondering why.
In the silence of night, tears would fall,
For dreams put off, for hopes so small.
But in their hearts, a flame still burned,
For the girls of yesterday, they yearned.
They faced the night, with courage and might,
For the girls of yesterday, still fight the fight.
